Build Africa is
an international NGO that has been operational in Uganda since 1996. Build
Africa Uganda (BAU) programmes focus on Education and Livelihood improvement.
BAU currently works in 13 districts with its field programs coordinated through
two Area offices located in Kumi and Masindi.
Build Africa
has secured funding from Big Lottery Fund UK to implement a three year project
– Improving Learning and Attainment in Primary Education, Uganda (ILEAP) that
aims at ensuring that boys and girls in P1 to P3 receive support for their
learning, both in and out of school. This is to enable them acquire the
fundamental skills they need in order to achieve a good level of educational attainment.
Implemented in 40 primary schools within Ngora and Bukedea districts, the ILEAP
project will work directly with three key target groups; children in early
years of school, teachers of early years classes and parents of the children in
early years.
Job Summary: The Senior
Finance Officer will support the Head of Finance in ensuring efficient and
effective Financial Management and safe custody of the Organization’s
resources. The job holder will be responsible for timely, accurate and high
quality financial reporting on all activities. The Senior Finance Officer will
also ensure that donor funds are effectively managed in pursuit of agreed
objectives. He/she will ensure that there is a strong harmonious relationship
between BAU’s finance teams and other teams within BAU. The incumbent will also
ensure that effective systems and controls are in place for financial
management and reporting. He/she will ensure continuous improvement and
development of the finance team and that the Kampala finance team and field
office finance Teams have sufficient capacity to meet the above requirements.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·
The ideal candidate should hold a Bachelor of
commerce or related degree from a recognised University with an Accounting bias
·
At least four years or related post qualification
professional experience
·
Possession of professional qualifications like ACCA,
CPA will be an added
·
Prior exposure and experience in a senior finance
role within an International NGO is desirable
·
Ability and willingness to produce financial
information in a format that non-technical staff can understand
·
Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, with
particular emphasis on planning, working to tight deadlines, providing
training, facilitating capacity building and supervising team activities
·
Team leader experience essential; proven staff
management skills including on the job training and systems development
·
Proactive approach to identifying problems and
suggesting improvements
·
Excellent written, verbal and communication skills
including budget and report writing experience
·
Good team player, flexible, tolerant, committed and
capable of working within a multinational and multicultural team
·
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word
and Excel. Navision accounting system experience is desirable
