Organisation: Ministry of Gender, Labour Social DevelopmentProject Name: Strengthening Safeguards, Safety and Health at Workplaces (SSASHEW)Reports to: Commissioner Occupational Safety and HealthThe Government of Uganda is implementing a Project “Strengthening Safeguards, Safety and Health at Workplaces (SSASHEW) (2013/14 - 2017/18), under the Ministry of Gender, Labour Social Development whose objective is to promote safeguards, safety and health measures at workplaces.The project is being implemented in fifty (50) districts of Uganda focusing on handling safeguards, safety and health concerns in the areas of oil and gas exploration and production, manufacturing, tourism, construction sites and public workplaces/offices.Job Summary: The Project Officer will mainly protect people's health and safety by making sure risks in the workplace are properly controlled. He/ she will ensure that employers comply with all aspects of health and safety laws and that workplaces are not the cause of ill health, injury or even death. The incumbent will also be responsible for specialized and routine inspection, examination and certification of plants and equipment.Key Duties and Responsibilities:Guide the Commissioner on all matters relating to electrical and mechanical safetyDeveloping, reviewing and enforcement of the electrical and mechanical laws related to OSHResponsible for the Inspection, Examination and Certification of statutory equipment and electrical installationsInvestigate all electrical and mechanical accidents and where legal proceedings follow to be expert witnessOffer a system of testing and examining of mechanical and electrical installations in workplacesPerform research and publish reports on OSH in plants and equipment operations, maintenance, quality, disposal among othersPerform any other duties as assigned to you by your supervisorQualifications, Skills and Experience:The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related disciplinesFive or more years’ professional experience in Occupational Safety and Health in any Industry.All applicants for the above jobs should attach three sets of certified photocopies of their certificates, academic transcripts and testimonials.
