The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS, www.nexteinstein.org) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate training, research and outreach in mathematical sciences. Its mission is to enable Africa’s brightest students to flourish as independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators capable of propelling Africa’s future scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency. The first AIMS centre opened in Cape Town, South Africa in 2003; since 2011, AIMS has opened additional centres in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Tanzania. The goal of the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) is to build a pan-African network of 15 centres of excellence across the continent by 2023.


The MasterCard Foundation (MCF) Scholars Program at AIMS is a new, five year, US $25 million program that will increase the number of African Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) scholars, particularly women, leading technological innovations that can address development challenges and drive wealth creation in Africa. The MCF Scholars Program is a ten-year, $500 million education initiative that will provide over 17,000 academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people from developing countries – particularly from Africa – with access to quality and relevant secondary and university education.

Reporting to the Centre Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Director, Africa Development Agenda at the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative Secretariat, the Program Manager’s overall responsibility will be to coordinate all the day to day programmatic activities of The MasterCard Foundation (MCF) Scholars Program and other programs at the respective AIMS centre. The Program Manager will work with a multicultural team at the AIMS Centre to provide operational leadership and oversight in planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the Programs in the field ensuring quality and timely delivery of all Programs to meet its objectives.



You have a high degree of comfort managing results-based programs at the ground level with the honed ability to apply sound judgement to thoughtfully address and solve problems in the moment. This is a 3-year, full time contract opportunity based from the AIMS Centres in Ghana, South Africa and Tanzania.


Do you have what we need?


• Master’s degree in development, project management or related social sciences or education


• Minimum of 7 years professional experience in program and budget management including management of day to day implementation of program activities


• High degree of comfort in Results Based Management, M&E and reporting


• Ability to make decisions and exercises good judgement providing solutions to challenges experienced while implementing programs


• Excellent facilitation and communication skills in English and French, both oral and written

As part of the education reform process, the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) of the Government of Uganda (GoU) has taken a decision to undertake a through reform of the lower secondary education curriculum under the implementation of the Universal Post-Primary Education and Training Project (UPPET).

The Government of Uganda has therefore secured financing from the World Bank towards support of this reform process and wishes to apply some of the proceeds to financing the lower secondary education curriculum, examination and assessment reform, including associated teachers education and reorienting the content to improve the development of important pre-vocational knowledge and skills.

The assignment of the National consultant(s) will be to provide technical assistance to National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) and Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) to assess whether the extracts developed have integrated the relevant strand; assess the sustainability and appropriateness of the draft assessment items to the purpose of having sexuality education on the curriculum into the curriculum.

In general the national consultant will support the NCDC/MoES and various stakeholders to integrate principles and intent of effective sexuality education into the reformed curriculum.

Job Summary: The Senior Planner Technology and Industry

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Guide

    on the strategies for appropriate industrial growth to raise the

    competitiveness of the manufactured products

  • Develop

    programs aimed at raising the level of industrial growth in the country

    on strategies to raise the level of STIE in the country and advise on

The International

Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is the leading

population movement. In addition to operational matters and research, IOM has

an important role in enhancing and building national capacity in migration

Key Duties and

Responsibilities: 
The IOM IT Assistant will be responsible for;

  • Supporting

    the implementation, management and maintenance of Information Technology

    and Communication services in IOM Kampala.

  • Providing

    onsite support to the above mentioned systems and services in the mission.

  • Support

    in the installation, configuration and upgrading desktop and laptop

    computers and software used in the mission.

  • Render

    support in ensuring data and system integrity by setting up and

    administrating IT security systems: anti-virus, backup routines, access

    controls, firewall and physical security.

    mission.

Experience:

Job Summary: The Planner Agriculture will be responsible

for strategic comprehensive development planning for the agriculture sector.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Actively

    engage in policy and problem solving research in agriculture (crops,

    livestock and fisheries)

  • Carry

    out economic analysis of the cropping, livestock and fisheries systems

    with a view to advising the Authority on issues for discussion with H.E.

Market research revealed that 50% of girls in East Africa are using inadequate sanitary materials, including dirty rags and bits of mattress, some or all of the


time and report missing school during menstruation. Irise Uganda Ltd produces an affordable reusable sanitary pad (Easy Pad) and focuses on making this product available in the local community and accessible to all women and girls.Following a successful pilot which engaged 20 women in production and supplied 5,500 girls with pads, the business is looking to establish a sustainable sales strategy based around empowering local women to become entrepreneurs in their own community.Role Description:The Business and Sales Manager will work under the supervision of the Irise Uganda Ltd Board to implement a sales strategy based around the recruitment of Sales Representatives who will then work to recruit and supervise local entrepreneurs selling and promoting Easy Pads in their community.       working knowledge of FAO’s administrative and accounting systems and

      procedures.

    • The

      incumbent must possess a cooperative spirit, flexibility and openness to

      work in an international environment within a team of staff with mixed

      skills and different national and cultural backgrounds.

      courtesy and ability to establish and maintain effective working

      relationships with people of different national and cultural background.


    Languages: Working

    knowledge (Level C) of the FAO official language used for communication within

    the country (English) and working knowledge of the local language(s) is

    required.
