Job description



Background:
Irise Uganda Limited is a social enterprise based in Jinja, Uganda. It was founded by UK registered charity Irise International and Uganda registered Community Based Organisation Revelation Children’s Ministries International in response to the concerns of women and girls about the impact lack of an affordable sanitary product was having on their lives. Mar
ket research revealed that 50% of girls in East Africa are using inadequate sanitary materials, including dirty rags and bits of mattress, some or all of the time and report missing school during menstruation. Irise Uganda Ltd produces an affordable reusable sanitary pad (Easy Pad) and focuses on making this product available in the local community and accessible to all women and girls.
Following a successful pilot which engaged 20 women in production and supplied 5,500 girls with pads, the business is looking to establish a sustainable sales strategy based around empowering local women to become entrepreneurs in their own community.
Role Description:
The Business and Sales Manager will work under the supervision of the Irise Uganda Ltd Board to implement a sales strategy based around the recruitment of Sales Representatives who will then work to recruit and supervise local entrepreneurs selling and promoting Easy Pads in their community. The Manager will also work with the production unit to ensure effective management and recordkeeping processes are maintained and developed as the business grows.
Specific Responsibilities:
- To recruit, train and supervise Sales Representatives working remotely in their Regions
Initially a team of up to 3 sales representatives with the potential for expansion in 2016
Supervision will consist of weekly skype meetings with monthly meetings/training in person
– To develop written resources for Sales Representatives to use
- To introduce appropriate software for managing sales and train the team on its use
- To develop and organise the production of ‘Starter Packs’ for local entrepreneurs wishing to work on commission in their areas.
- To work with other team members to update and develop sales targets, strategies and associated budgets and plans.
- To attend monthly board meetings and present updates to the rest of the board, including progress towards production and sales targets.
- To work with the production team to ensure effective management and record keeping systems are maintained and developed as the business grows.
- To work with other team members to update and develop business plans and produce relevant reports and funding applications.

Communication
Confident and able to articulate ideas in group discussion
Able to listen and remain open minded to new ideas Able to communicate the unique selling points of Irise Uganda Ltd effectively to others
Confident in interpreting different forms of communication including verbal, written, numerical and graphical. Able to give and receive constructive feedback and respond appropriately
Organisation
Able to time manage effectively in order to fulfil general and specific responsibilities
Able to think and plan at a strategic and organisational level
ICT
Proficient at using emails, google drive and skype
Able to produce and view documents in Microsoft Word, Power point and Excel
Able to use, and train others to use software for managing Sales (e.g: Sales Force)
Specific Skills or Experience of relevance
Previous experience of growing a small business (essential)
Previous experience of developing and implementing a sales strategy (essential)
Relevant undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications in business and management (desired)
Experience of establishing or growing social enterprises (desired)
Experience of living and working in East Africa (desired)
Able to take the initiative and work independently (essential)
Able to work with individuals from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds (essential)

Salary and conditions:
- Salary of £900/month (3,600,000USh/month)
- A 6 month contract with the potential to extend if good performance.
- Free accommodation provided (a modern furnished flat with hot water, electricity and cooking facilities including a fridge. The flat may be shared with one other person who will also be working or volunteering for Irise Uganda Ltd/Irise International depending on the circumstances of the successful applicant).
- Desk space in the Irise International office in Jinja which is shared with Irise Uganda Ltd.
