Organizational Profile:
University Research Co., LLC (URC), a US-based public health organization working in Uganda since 2005, is implementing the USAID Applying science to strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) Project which is a five-year cooperative agreement dedicated to improving health, population and nutrition services through technical support to service delivery institutions, country Ministries of Health, USAID country missions, and cooperating agencies.
The USAID ASSIST Project Community Linkages Coordinator will work with health facilities and communities to effectively establish linkages between the two.
He/ she will work closely with CSO’s in Northern Uganda to coordinate activities which will increase the demand for health services provided at health facility level such as SMC, HIV care and treatment, PMTCT, Family Planning, MNCH, Nutrition and TB.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Works in liaison with CSOs that are supporting health services in the northern Uganda region to create demand for health services in the community.
· Actively coordinate activities between the CSO’s and health facilities to ensure that services provided are adequate and can meet the demand created.
· Strengthen linkages between the community health departments and the HIV/ART/PMTCT/MCH/TB clinics
· Work closely with community health department to establish community based structures that will create demand for HIV/AIDS care, treatment, Nutrition, SMC, MNCH, malaria and PMTCT and TB/HIV services. They will participate in identification, training and support supervision of the Village Health Teams (VHTs)
· Responsible for community mobilization for HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment, PMTCT and TB/HIV services
· Coordinate and support linkage facilitators and mother support groups to efficiently and effectively execute their roles and responsibilities in the community
· Develop and timely submit work plans and budgets for all assigned PMTCT activities at least quarterly.
· Ensure the timely writing and submission of quality and accurate PMTCT reports quarterly, bi-weekly, and at all other requested times.
· Ensure the spread and integration of lessons learnt about how to engage communities to health facilities to improve the quality of services, retention in care and adherence to treatment.
· Ensure that cross-cutting themes like gender and health work force development are well integrated into the implementation plans.
· Works closely with other KM staff to document best practices in form of case studies, success stories, abstracts, video clips in addition to the routine biweekly updates, quarterly and annual reports.
· In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation team ensure that data collected is accurate and valid and captures process and outcome indicators.
· Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor/chief of party.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Community Development or Community Health.
· Possession of a post graduate in Public Health, Sociology, Community Health would be an added advantage
· At least three years’ work in community work with experience gained through serving within a government institution or NGO with proven ability to coordinate activities of different stakeholders at district and or sub national level.
· Past experience in using any of the various aspects of the behavior change and communication (BCC) model would be desirable
· Excellent written and verbal communication or interpersonal skills is a must.
· Excellent analytical skills and ability to support a cross section of frontline health workers
· Possess the ability and willingness to travel within the supported districts in northern Uganda
