As a leading independent leaf tobacco merchant, Alliance One International
provides worldwide service to the large cigarette manufacturers. Multinational
manufacturers of consumer tobacco products rely on independent merchants such
as Alliance One to supply the majority of their leaf. As a result, Alliance One
purchases tobacco in more than 45 countries and serves manufacturers of
cigarettes and other consumer tobacco products in over 90 countries. With its
global headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, Alliance One proudly
claims broad geographic processing capabilities, a diversified product
offering, and an established customer base, which includes all of the major
consumer tobacco product manufacturers. They select, purchase, process, pack,
store, ship, and, in certain developing markets, provide agronomy expertise and
financing for growing leaf tobacco. Alliance One’s revenues are primarily
comprised of sales of processed tobacco and fees charged for related services
to manufacturers of consumer tobacco products around the world. They do not
manufacture cigarettes or other consumer tobacco products.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Management of OAU
Concessions:
- Compiles Forest Management Plan to help
implement AOU forest activities. - Oversees the forestry contractor selection
& supervision - Supervises, implements and tracks the
forestation work packages - Manages all the silvicultural operations
in all plantations - Ensures that the KPIs are being met
- Actively monitors and evaluates plantation
progress - Ensures both AOTU and DoF Forest
objectives are met - Makes sure that all operations are within
budget.
2. Management of AOU Woodlots
& Small Woodlots:
- Manages nurseries for both small holder’s
woodlots as well as AOTU commercial farms.
- Identifies and assesses 3rd party
nurseries for smallholders’ production and SRP seedlings. - Supports small holder farmers in raising
& managing woodlots. - Ensures all small holder farmers are
drilled on forest issues. - Actively monitors and supervises work done
by small holders as well as AOTU farms - Ensures that the KPIs are being met.
3. Management of firewood
Supply:
- Sources curing wood for both small holder
and AOTU farms - Delivers curing firewood to both small
holder & AOTU farms - Costing of the delivered firewood.
- Identifies and contracts firewood
transporters.
- Compiles customer reports
- Coordinates Customer invoicing and
refunds - Actively facilitates audit by 3rd party
auditors - Coordinates with Government (NFA) on
forestry concession. - Compiles reports to local and regional offices
- Collates and compiles the forestry
activity report in conjunction with finance on expense tracking - Prepares and manages operational
budgets - Undertakes performance reviews for
subordinate staff annually.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should hold a Diploma
in Forestry. Possession of a Degree in Forestry is an added advantage. - At least three years’ experience in a
relevant field - Supervisory experience will be an added
advantage
