About Ni-Yetu Youth Programme:


Ni-Yetu Youth Program is a program which integrates promotion of Youth

Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights and prevention of Gender Based Violence

among young people which is going to be implemented in five districts of

Tororo, Kamuli, Lira, Alebtong and Kampala for three and half years. Plan

International Uganda with funding from SIDA will engage national and local CSOs

to implement this program. Ni-Yetu is a Swahili word which literally stands for

‘it is ours’ and has been carefully selected by the youth representatives to

demonstrate youth identification and ownership for the program. The program

seeks to empower young people to demand for and fulfil their rights in a

participatory and inclusive manner that also recognizes and actively engages

with CSOs, key public sector agencies at various levels as well as relevant

community-level actors.


Job Summary:  The Project Manager takes overall leadership

and delivery of the Ni-YETU SIDA funded Youth project, managing the consortium

of partners. The incumbent will manage the planning, implementation, learning,

monitoring and evaluation of the project. She/he should ensure mutual learning,

effective coordination amongst partners and project stakeholders and will aim

to document the Ni-Yetu model. He /s she will also  ensure overall partnership capacity

enhancement of the project partners and local Civil Society Organisations. The

incumbent will also ensure proper budget control and management of the project


Key Duties and

Responsibilities: 

  • In charge of strategic project management

    which includes effective planning, implementation documentation,

    monitoring, evaluation and progress reporting

  • Responsible for the Integration of Ni-Yetu

    with other program initiatives

  • Steer the consortium of partners and

    ensure that all components are managed in an integrated manner with

    regular meetings and learning forums

  • Overall leadership in ensuring timely

    quality quarterly and annual implementation plans and budgets.

  • Ensure timely and proper communication and

    coordination amongst the partners and stakeholders to ensure smooth

    running of the project

  • Prepare and disseminate quality project

    reports to management as per donor requirements and project monitoring and

    evaluation plan

  • Ensure timely and adequate response to

    donor queries regarding the project.

  • Ensure effective project budget management

    and monitoring which includes timely accountability of the funds in line

    with accounting policies and procedures of plan

  • Manage project resources efficiently and

    effectively in accordance with Plan Uganda policies and guidelines and in

    accordance with grant conditions.

  • Provide leadership to the project team

    including mentorship and coaching to enhance staff and partner capacity

    for effective implementation of the project

  • Represent and link Plan Uganda and the

    project externally with partners, government and other agencies/alliances

    at district and national level on GBV/SRH policy and advocacy related

    issues.

  • Create and sustain positive working

    relationship with the respective line ministries and departments,

    strategic partners both at national and district level

  • Ensure all project documentation is

    organised and well maintained for accountability purposes, aiming for

    having a well-articulated model of the program.

  • Organise regular performance review

    meetings to assess progress but also to agree on and communicate any

    changes in strategy with the key project stakeholders

  • Make sure the Plan’s child protection

    policy and guidelines are adhered to in project implementation.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the SIDA Project

    vacancy should hold a degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Development

    or any other related field

  • Additional training at post-graduate level

    in project planning and management.

  • Five or more years’ experience in working

    with adolescents/youths with a minimum of three years’ experience in

    management Gender/SRH related interventions preferably with an

    International Non-Governmental Organization

  • Past experience in policy and advocacy

    issues for the young people and knowledge of coalitions and networks on

    gender/SRH is an added advantage

  • Prior experience in managing consortiums

    of partners and implementing projects through partners with a strong

    component on capacity building.

  • Excellent project management and team

    leadership skills

  • Working knowledge of Gender and SRH

    related Policies and strategies

  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and

    communication (verbal and written) skills.

  • Knowledge in implementation of rights

    based programming including principles of gender equality

  • Proven skills and experience in report

    writing and budget management

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and

    work cooperatively with partners

  • Ability to work with people from diverse

    cultures, ability to lead and motivate people to work in teams.

  • Ability to develop synergies and

    integration of different project.

  • Proven computer skills and knowledge of

    Microsoft software including MS Word processing, Power point presentation,

    Excel spreadsheets, e-mail and web based research.
