Officer
The Security Council established the United Nations Multidimensional
Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) by
its resolution 2149 (2104) of 10 April 2014 and requested the Secretary-General
to subsume BINUCA in the new mission as of the date of the adoption of that
resolution. It further requested the
Secretary-General to ensure a seamless transition from BINUCA to MINUSCA.
Acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, the
Security Council authorized MINUSCA to take all necessary means to carry out
its mandate, within its capabilities and its areas of deployment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages the maintenance and repair of
UN-owned vehicles in accordance with the vehicle manufacturers standards
for automotive electrical system including Electronic Vehicle Monitoring
System (EVMS), air conditioning system, suspension system, braking system
(including ABS system) and body work and painting. - Oversees the diagnostic and fault finding,
quality control/assurance, road testing and vehicle recovery. - Analyses reasons for technical faults and
prepares reports. - The incumbent also manages vehicle
inspections. - Supervises product upgrades initiated by a
vehicle manufacturer. - In charge sending reports to document
workshop performance (including personnel matters), vehicle warranties,
vendor support and other workshop related - Ensures that information in the Electronic
Vehicle Monitoring System (EVMS) and Fuel log software packages is
accurate and up-to-date. - Works closely with the manufacturer’s
representatives for after sales warranty and technical fault claims. - Identifies requirements for spare parts,
hand tools and workshop floor equipment - Actively participates in the technical
evaluations of bids received from vendors through the Procurement Section. - Monitors contractual performance of
vendors and verifies financial invoices. Participates in the development
of the Transport Unit s annual budget proposals. Participates in the
development of the Transport Units standard operating procedures. - Actively participates in the training
activities to enhance the capacity of international and national staff
members. - Performs any other related duties as
required.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations
MINUSCA Vehicle Technician vacancy should hold a High school diploma or
equivalent. Technical or vocational certificate in mechanical engineering,
transportation, logistics or other related fields is desirable. - At least four years of progressively
responsible experience in the maintenance of motor vehicles,
heavy/specialised transport equipment, plants and/or Mechanized (Handling
Equipment (MHE) is required. - Significant experience in international
operations in a post conflict environment is desirable. - Language proficiency i.e.
Fluency in oral and written English is required. Working Knowledge of a
second United Nations official language is an advantage i.e. French or
Portuguese
