The programme aims to strengthen the development of a vibrant, pluralistic and market-oriented seed sector that is able to address key challenges that hamper the seed sector such as seed quality assurance and availability of foundation seed.
In collaboration with the government of Uganda, three field offices are hosted at Abi (WestNile), Mbarara (Western Uganda) and Ngetta (Northern Uganda) Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (ZARDI). Each center hosts an Agribusiness Expert and a Seed Expert working with 10 farmer groups spread over several districts strengthening their capacity to produce and market quality seed of locally demanded crops and varieties and support them towards developing commercially sustainable local seed businesses. Agribusiness Advisor I Deputy Chief of Party The purpose of the position is two-fold. On the one hand the position will take up a number of management and strategic orientation roles of the Chief of Party and on the other hand support the agribusiness experts in the three zones in seed business development of local seed businesses. Main duties and responsibilities •             Provide overall program management support to the Chief of Party in developing a strong, coherent technical vision and initiate innovative strategies across the program and deputize the Chief of Party when required. •             Provide project team leadership and supervision to agribusiness and seed experts that result in cohesive team with results orientation. •             Implement management systems to successfully achieve performance and results targets within established budget parameters and critically reflect and recommend on local seed business development, public private partnerships and other innovations. •             Assure that the program provides timely deliverables (including work plans, performance reports and accountabilities) to meet M&E and donor requirements. •             Engage with all key stakeholders, including public and private sector officials, donor and development partners, to strengthen and build on the several seed sector interventions in the country and maintain seed sector related networks at zonal and national level. •             Desiqn and manage interventions that aim to build capacity of various institutions, private businesses, public organizations, and researchers across the two program components. •             Together with the Chief of Party provide strategic guidance on program development for future proofing the ISSD programme in Uganda •             Provide technical and methodological support to the ISSD team on strengthening seed value chains and the role of quality seed in value chain development of selected crops. JOB SUMMARY:

GRI is currently seeking a Senior Gender Advisor for an anticipated DFID-funded Agricultural Development program in Uganda. The Advisor will have overall accountability to ensure strategic development, delivery of project results, and client satisfaction for women’s agricultural development project components. Periodic overnight travel will be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Oversee strategic development and program deliverables for gender and women’s programs

· Monitor budgets, grants and expenditures

· Serve as primary point of contact (POC) for gender

· Recruit and oversee international consultants and local national staff

· Maintain collaborative relationships with project staff

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual reports, work-plans, and success stories as required by client and GRI

· Travel to field to ensure successful delivery of program results

· Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Lead

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Masters in agriculture, rural development, economic development, or similar required.

· Ten (10) years experience developing and managing agricultural and rural development programs for women; fifteen (15) years preferred.

· Additional experience with food security, nutrition, climate change, access to rural finance, and agribusiness development preferred.

· Prior experience in Uganda required.

· Prior management experience preferred.

· Fluency in English required. Fluency in at least one local language preferred.

· Prior experience working on DFID programs preferred.

· Excellent management and administrative skills.

· High level of interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with all levels of staff, foreign government personnel, members of donor organizations, funders and policy makers

· Self-motivated and well organized.

· Ability to work collaboratively, supportively, and respectfully with others.

· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

· Flexibility and willingness to travel to difficult environments to complete program assignments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
