Job Summary: The URA Tax Specialist Officer

will implement tax policies and regulations in support of the assessment,

collection and enforce recovery of taxes in line with the URA Policies to

facilitate optimum revenue collection and improve taxpayer compliance.


Key Duties and

Responsibilities: 

  • Build staff capacity in the tax compliance activities related to

    International taxation by transferring skills through practical

    approaches, workshops, improving desk instructions in handling similar

    cases.

  • Implement tax compliance activities that include audit programs

    for assessment of domestic tax payers to identify risk areas, develop

    implementation and operational plans.

  • Implement the programs for return filing and collection of

    domestic taxes to increase revenue collection.

  • Update, safeguard and avail tax records to facilitate assessment

    of revenue collection.

  • Implement service delivery programs to support, sensitize and meet

    client needs on tax.

  • Execute strategies and control measures for curbing tax leakages,

    improve audit performance and service delivery to minimize of potential

    tax leakages in Revenue collection.


Qualifications,

Skills and Experience:          

  • The applicant should preferably hold a degree in Bachelors of

    Commerce, Finance, and Accounting, Business Administration , Economics,

    Actuarial Science and Statistics

  • Working knowledge and operational experience in the application of

    the Income tax, the VAT law & relevant tax laws.

  • A minimum of three or more years’ experience in the handling

    taxation matters of multinational companies.

  • Past working experience with a reputable international Audit firm

  • Membership to Professional Associations like ACCA, CPA,CIMA etc

    will be an added advantage

  • Previous use and thorough understanding and operation of data

    analysis software will be an added advantage.

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of international tax and the

    operations of multinational companies

  • Must demonstrate thorough understanding of data analysis, Tax

    Planning, Taxation Accounting and Tax Audit

  • Working knowledge of how to prepare and interpret final accounts

    for multinational companies.


The Uganda Revenue

Authority (URA) was established by the Uganda Revenue Authority Statute of 1991

and set up in September of the same year as a central body for assessment and

collection of specified revenue, to administer and enforce the laws relating to

such revenue and to provide for related matters. This statute incorporated all

the laws that were in force then regarding tax collection. The new organization

(URA) amalgamated the three tax administration departments that were

responsible for all the taxes collected by the Central Government of Uganda.
