NGO Vacancies - Manager Rights Social Protection and Accountability at Platform for Labour Action (PLA)


Organisation: Platform for Labour Action (PLA)Duty Station:  Kampala, UgandaPlatform for Labour Action (PLA) is a national human rights civil society organization that was founded in 2000. PLA focuses on human rights and seeks to promote and protect the rights of the vulnerable and marginalised workers through empowerment of communities and the individual. Our target population include children in exploitative forms of work, children at risk of exploitation, informal sector workers infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, women and youth and workers earning below Ushs. 300,000/= per monthJob Summary: The Manager Rights Social Protection and Accountability will design, review and implement all aspects of Rights, Social Protection and Accountability issues at PLA. This will include planning, coordination and implementation of activities in relation to national laws and policies, international labour standards and other human rights instrumentsKey Duties and Responsibilities:  Contribute to the progressive design and review of the PLA social accountability component including rights education programme.Supervise implementation of the PLA rights abuse complaint mechanism including processing and following-up on complaints and adjudicating on appeals cases.Strengthening capacities of PLA program staff and partners in rights, social protection and accountability programming. ( Rights based and livelihood programming)In charge of developing and managing the implementation of work plans and budgetsProactive engagement with existing rights-oriented civil society organisations and networks to ensure maximum ‘reach’ at community levelProvide input into PLA communications and advocacy strategy including engagement of alternative communications strategy. Oversee the implementation of the PLA Social Protection interventions.Ensure that there is an updated status of all programme matters particularly complaints received, resolved and status of all unresolved cases.Maintain professional credibility by keeping in touch with new developments in PLA’s areas of specialty and in own field, the national laws and policies, international labour standards and other human Rights instruments.Supervision of Program staff, providing them with consultation, direction and job review on a regular basis.Compile and submit periodic  reports including monthly, quarterly and annual reports and progressive program reports to the Executive Director on organizations activities.Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  The candidate should hold a Master’ degree in social sciences, law, development studies or community development or human rights.At least three years’ work experience in NGO implementing human rights, labour and employment areas.Possess the ability to understand social exclusion, vulnerability and rights-issues.Past experience in operational management including management of field staff.Experience in capacity building and working with civil society organisations.Working knowledge of relevant rights-oriented civil society networks.Exhibit commitment to rights education and the empowerment of vulnerable workers.Demonstrated analytical, creativity and innovation skills.Strong community mobilisation, facilitation and mediation skillsStrong analytical, public relations, advocacy, team building and leadership skillsStrong skills in planning, organizing and problem solving and a results-driven attitude.Excellent written and oral communication skills; candidate must be highly proficient in English.Excellent computer skills especially PowerPoint, M/S word and publishing soft waresAbility to  work independently with minimal supervisionAbility to meet tight deadlinesAbility to adopt to PLA’s values of Professionalism, Commitment to work, Transparency and Accountability, Team work, Respect for Human Rights and Zero Tolerance of Corruption.Please send your application in writing, including a motivation letter, curriculum vitae, and three references to info@pla-uganda.org or adminvol2@pla-uganda.org;The handwritten applications can be delivered to Plot 68 Kanjokya Street, Kamwokya P.O Box 9714 Kampala – Uganda
