APOPO is a Belgian NGO that has developed an innovative method using African giant pouched rats, nicknamed “HeroRATs”, to detect landmines and tuberculosis using their extraordinary sense of smell. APOPO’s Head Office is based in Morogoro, Tanzania. For more information about APOPO, please check out our website at www.apopo.org.


APOPO is currently recruiting a Head of Training and Behavioral Research for the Head Office in Morogoro, to start ASAP. The position requires a minimum commitment of 3 years.



You will be managing a team of experienced rat trainers at the training site in Morogoro. You will be collaborating with APOPO’s international teams on Mine Action and Tuberculosis detection, and ensure the optimization of the deployment of the detection rats. You will lead the behavioral aspects of the research supporting the TB research team and the Mine Action team.



You will also be in charge to lead experiments and training to explore other detection applications of the rats. You will be required to publish your work and present to the relevant international scientific community.
