InterAid Uganda Limited (IAU) is
a non-governmental humanitarian national organization established in 1988, and
duly registered with the NGO Board and NGO Forum. IAU has been and still
involved in projects geared towards the improvement of livelihoods of the
disadvantaged persons both in rural and urban areas.
Job Summary: The Legal
Officer/Advocate will be responsible for the Programme Legal Desk and ensure timely
coordination and follow up with legal service providers to promote equal access
to justice for Persons of Concern through proper implementation of weekly
/monthly /quarterly activity schedules to attain the required targets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- In
charge of developing and ensuring implementation of weekly, monthly, quarterly
activity schedules and targets. - Maintain
a legal desk at the programme to coordinate legal activities. - Manage
and follow up with legal service provision and service providers. - Ensure
information dissemination to Persons of Concern and the community on legal
issues. - Carry
out follow ups and referral of Persons in need of legal assistance. - Identify
gaps and build the capacity of Programme staff to attend to Persons of
Concern with legal issues. - Ensure
coordination with service providers and stakeholders to ensure access to
legal services by Persons of Concern. - The
incumbent will compile weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports to
submit to the Programme Officer. - Mentor
and coach staff in the legal section as per job requirements. - Carry
out training needs analysis for staff in the legal section and recommend
relevant training - Represent
the department in management meetings and any other appropriate committees - Offer
timely legal support to managers and the organisation at large - In
charge of the administration and supervision of department staff - Develop
and monitor the implementation of the budget in line with organisation’s expectation
(cost effectiveness) - Ensure
staff performance is managed in the legal section.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The
applicant should preferably hold a Bachelors’ Degree of Legal Laws (LLB)
and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (PGDLP). - The
Legal Associate / Advocate must be enrolled with the High Court. - A
minimum of two years’ experience in Refugee and Human Rights will be an
added advantage.
