Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) exists to promote and protect the social, intellectual, economic and professional interests of its members/teachers as a per-requisite to enhancing the status of teaching profession.
Job Summary: The Deputy General Secretary will deputize the General Secretary so as to ensure that the common interests of the organization’s stakeholders are effectively represented within the different Education circles both within and outside Uganda. The incumbent will support the General Secretary to plan, review and coordinate the implementation or me Union programs in line with the Strategic objectives and Annual work plan.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Deputize the General Secretary in executing his/her duties;
Manage the Administrative support services in the Union;
Work closely with the Legal Department in the preparation, analysis, negotiation, and review of contracts related to the purchase or sale of equipment, materials, supplies, products, or services;
Ensure contracts, insurance requirements, and government regulations and safety standards are followed properly;
Receive, review and forward management reports and propose initiatives to the General Secretary;
The incumbent will develop systems for effective performance and supervision of UNATU Regional offices and Branches;
Coordinate and monitor of office safety and security;
Coordinate and manage the procurement processes in line with the procurement plan and budgets;
Responsible for the mobilization and leadership development of the union members;
Oversee and evaluate the performance of staff in the department;
In charge of planning and monitoring the administration of the Union Assets and property and support in estates management in line with the guidelines;
Work closely with IT department in Examining energy consumption patterns, technology usage, and plan long and short-term maintenance and Plan workspaces needs for the union;
Perform any other duties that may be required, within the mandate of the organization from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The incumbent should preferably hold a Master’s Degree in Education, Public Administration and Management or Business Administration. Possession of a Post graduate qualifications in, Management, Public Administration or Business Administration are essential
At least seven years’ practical experience in administration in a busy organization
Past exposure and experience in working with issues of Advocacy, Gender and Human Rights.
Detailed working knowledge of government policy on education, international conventions and education commitments
Comprehensive knowledge of Trade Unions, Labour and Education service legislation
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse community.
Computer literacy skills
People management and employee counseling skills
High degree of integrity
Possess the ability to work under pressure and to meet practical deadlines
Age: Below 50 years.
