Global Health Corps pairs intelligent and
passionate fellows with organizations that require new thinking and innovative
solutions. We provide these young leaders with the tools to remain connected
after their fellowship year finishes, deepening their ability to enact change
through heightened skills and strong partnerships. We currently place fellows
in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.
Alive Medical Services (AMS) is a
recognized leader in providing innovative, comprehensive HIV treatment,
support, and care. Our community-based clinic, located in (Namuwongo) Kampala,
serves over 13,000 people, including children, adolescents, women, and men. AMS
provides all services free of charge in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. AMS
has received numerous international awards recognizing the clinic for providing
a wide range of high quality services.
Job Summary: The Communication and Knowledge
Management Officer will work closely with senior management to ensure that AMS
is able to capture and share its wide scope of work with a local and
international audience. The incumbent will also work to extend the audience
that AMS reaches. This position is important in enabling and supporting the
clinic’s continued growth and provision of top quality care. The Communication
and Knowledge Management Officer will work with leadership to ensure that the
organization communicates information effectively, through as many ways as
possible, to successfully reach all audiences. This will include: engaging with
target audiences through social media, email campaigns, and website updates;
creating effective communication materials that target various audiences
(including an international audience, funders, policy makers, and beneficiaries)
through brochures, project briefs, and a quarterly newsletter; and identifying
and capturing stories to be shared, including case studies, success stories,
and project narratives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee
all organizational communication campaigns, including social media, email, and
·
Work
closely with AMS senior management to identify new audiences at the national,
regional, and international level and create effective communication materials
to engage these audiences
·
Develop
and update engaging web-based communications, including updating the website,
keeping the blog current, providing a range of content on social media, and
developing compelling email campaigns
·
Write
compelling case studies, success stories, and project narratives that highlight
the work done at the clinic
·
Write
project briefs that highlight AMS’ unique and diverse projects
·
Render
support building the capacity of AMS staff in this area
·
Work
with the Resource Mobilization Officer to support fundraising efforts
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·
The
ideal candidate for the Global Health Corps Career placement should hold a degree
in communications or public health
·
A
minimum of two years’ experience in communications, including writing
compelling stories and articles and working with a variety of web-based
communication platforms
·
Broad
knowledge and understanding of the international HIV/AIDS field
·
Previous
experience engaging with and writing for a range of audiences, including
governments and policy makers, multilateral agencies, and the general public
(national and international)
·
Previous
experience in communications, including writing compelling stories and articles
and working with a variety of web-based communication platforms
·
Excellent
writing and documentation skills
·
Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent oral and written
communication skills
·
Strong
initiative and the ability to think creatively
·
Demonstrated
ability to work independently and as a member of a team
·
Ability
to manage time and prioritize multiple projects and tasks
·
The
candidate should be flexible, reliable, and committed to AMS’ vision and
mission
Job Terms and Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing,
health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will
receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year.
Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC
programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds.
Housing will be arranged in in Kampala, an urban center and capital of Uganda.
Note:
The living stipend and completion award may be paid out in USD or local
currency, as determined by the placement organization.
