About S.O.U.L Foundation:


S.O.U.L. Foundation has been working to

foster sustainable and vibrant Ugandan communities with a focus on education,

women’s empowerment, food security, and health since 2009. The co-founder,

Brooke Stern, is a licensed and experienced nurse (BSN) who lives among the

targeted communities about 1.5 hours outside Kampala, Uganda. Believing in the

dignity and potential of every human being, Brooke co-founded S.O.U.L. on the

premise that authentic and effective change happens by giving a hand-up, not a

hand-out; that partnerships are the path to sustainable development; and that

the women of Uganda are the key to each community’s long term success.


Job Summary: The Maternal Health Officer will render

support in the design, development, and implementation of S.O.U.L. Foundation’s

Maternal Health Network (MHN). Using data collected on the maternal health

needs, as well as the knowledge and attitudes in Uganda’s Kiira Health

Sub-District in Jinja District, and the findings of the Antenatal Education

Center (AEC), he/she will work to meet these needs through the continuation and

evolvement of the MHN. The Maternal Health Officer will also design a way to

sustain the AEC and Stage Two and Stage Three of the MHN. The fellow will

research and ground truth the validity of these proposed stages, helping to

identify if/where adjustments should be made and advise on next steps. This

will require the individual to work closely with parents, village health teams,

traditional midwives, and other key maternal health stakeholders to improve

maternal health in the community through comprehensive and collaborative

interventions.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage,

monitor, and evaluate the day-to-day operations of the S.O.U.L. Foundation’s Maternal

Health Network projects


·        
Develop

a plan for sustainability for the Antenatal Education Center


·        
Further

develop a work plan for Stage Two information and communications technology

(ICT)-based interventions, including visual and oral materials and persuasive

tools for an audience of rural women


·        
Further

develop the project framework around Stage Three interventions to help women

receive increased access to quality care through a proposed learning and

birthing center, initiating and developing relationships with women leaders,

village leaders and regional and state agency heads


·        
Regularly

mobilize community members, Village Health Teams (VHTs), health workers, and

other appropriate organizations, councils, agencies, etc. for continued

participation and support of the Maternal Health Network and all its objectives


·        
Offer

support to S.O.U.L. staff with framing the next stages of the MHN for potential

donors, both institutional and individual, creating language for marketing and

communication materials and grants


·        
Work

closely with the Impact Management Officer and appropriate staff to track

program outcomes and outputs according to program goals and objectives, making

recommendations for improvements where necessary


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The

ideal candidate for the Global Health Corps Maternal Health Officer job

opportunity should hold a Master’s degree in a related field


·        
Previous

exposure and experience designing, implementing, and sustaining maternal health

programming


·        
Strong

statistical and analytical skills with the ability to effectively deduce

conclusions from data


·        
Prior

experience in East Africa and familiarity with its development challenges is

desired


·        
Prior

experience in maternal health programming in a developing country


·        
Possess

excellent cross-cultural, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with people

from a diverse set of backgrounds


·        
Excellent

computer skills, especially in database management and MS Office


·        
Proven

ability to take initiative and work well under pressure to meet deadlines


·        
Reliable,

self-motivated, and dynamic


·        
Demonstrated

ability to work in a team and form productive, supportive, and professional

relationships with all staff


·        
Experience

with IT systems in the developing world is desired


·        
Commitment

Job Terms and Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing,

health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will

receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year.

Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC

programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds. Fellows

will be provided with furnished housing in a private compound with a garden in

rural Bujagali Falls, Jinja District. The house is a short walk to the S.O.U.L.

office and near the Nile River.


Note:

The living stipend and completion award may be paid out in USD or local

currency, as determined by the placement organization.
