The

Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization

which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists.

The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong

emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI

has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission:

Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services

(provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins

University Core Lab) and Outreach.


Infectious

Diseases Institute (IDI) received funding from Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR to implement a comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the

mid-western Uganda Districts of Kiboga, Kibaale, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi,

Buliisa and Kiryandongo. The project is called “Accelerating Comprehensive

HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Health System Capacity Building and Technical

Assistance of District Health Teams and Health Facilities in Western and West

Nile Regions in the Republic of Uganda under PEPFAR.”


Job Summary: The Data Manager will head the Data Management

section of the project in the assigned field office.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manages the operations of data entry;

  • Acts as the point of contact for all data

    requests and ensure that users’ data needs are satisfied;

  • Acts as the point person for all data &

    IT related issues;

  • Works closely with M&E, clinic staff and

    any other parties to ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and

    bi-annual reports ;

  • Orients and trains data management staff;

  • Prepares and submits reports and monthly

    summaries as directed ;

  • Provides line supervision for data management

    staff;

  • Participates in staff evaluations and general

    staff needs;

  • Perform routine backups and ensure security

    of data captured into the project HMIS & other electronic databases;

  • Perform analysis and interpretation of data

    as & when required for project requirements.

  • Perform any other duties as may reasonably be

    assigned from time to time by the Field Office Coordinator.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the Infectious Diseases

    Institute (IDI) Data Manager job vacancy should preferably hold a Bachelor’s

    Degree in Statistics, Quantitative Economics or related field with a

    computing bias. Possession of an Advanced degree in computer science or

    computer related field will be an added advantage.

  • A minimum of three years of progressive

    experience in data management and systems development, especially in HIV/AIDS

    sector.

  • Working knowledge of current information

    technologies and HIV/AIDS;

  • Team player and management skills;

  • Excellent communication skills;

  • Knowledge of current HIV based electronic

    databases;

  • Competence in electronic data base packages

    e.g. Ms. Access, SQL ;

  • Excellent analytical skills & use of

    analysis packages e.g. STATA, Epinfo, Ms, Excel, SPSS; and

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of

    CDC/PEPFAR/MOH reporting requirements, expectations and tools.

  • Keen attention to detail, especially

    regarding data accuracy;

  • Fluency of the local languages within the

    supported districts is desirable.
