Communication

for Healthy Communities (CHC) is a five- year program implemented through a

cooperative agreement between the United States Agency for International

Development USAID/Uganda) and FHI 360. The program supports the Government of

Uganda (GOU) and US government (USG) implementing partners to design and

implement quality health communication interventions to contribute to reduction

in HIV infections, total fertility, maternal and child mortality, malnutrition,

malaria & tuberculosis.


Job Summary: The Data Manager (Qualitative) will take lead in

managing all qualitative data generated as part of health communication

Interventions. The Data Manager will be in charge of Quantitative data and will

take responsibility for all data management activities while the quantitative

data manager is absent. The incumbent will work in liaison with the M&E

officers to ensure that qualitative data from all the regional and central

offices is compiled, managed, analyzed and reported on time to inform the MEAL

Plan. The incumbent is also expected to participate in the conceptualization

and implementation of formative assessments and related studies.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Take lead in the development of databases to

    support capturing and processing of qualitative data from regional and

    Kampala headquarters offices.

  • Take lead in the overall, tracking,

    management, processing and analysis of qualitative data

  • Provide regular technical support to the

    regional teams in the compilation of qualitative data

  • Support the compilation of weekly updates

    and, quarterly and annual reports

  • Support the compilation of success stories

    and abstracts for research and knowledge sharing

  • Takes part in the management of project

    database review through data quality assessments

  • Actively participates in the improvement of

    MER databases based on issues emerging from DQA and new developments in

    USAID/PEPFAR reporting requirements

  • Actively participates in collating HMIS data

    monthly and quarterly as outlined in project M&E plan to enable

    on-going program planning and adaptation

  • Works in liaison with M&E and research

    staff to build the capacity of other project staff to use project

    databases (and other important data such as HMIS) including data analysis

  • Works closely with M&E and Knowledge

    Management staff to build capacity of staff to interpret findings and data

    use to inform on-going program learning and adaptation


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the USAID FHI360 Data

    Manager (Qualitative) career opportunity should hold a Master’s Degree in Sociology,

    Demography, Public Health or a related field.

  • At least three years’ experience in managing

    qualitative data using electronic platforms.

  • A minimum of three years’ experience working

    in health communication, with social and behavioral change communication

    programs.

  • Familiarity with how data is structured in

    databases.

  • Prior experience in extracting and

    summarizing HMIS data for program learning and adaptation

  • Working knowledge of USAID projects,

    terminology and M&E best practices and requirements preferred.

  • Computer literacy i.e. Proficiency in use of

    Qualitative software such as Nvivo, Atlas, Ethonograph is required

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of health

    communication interventions in Uganda.

  • Proficient with computer quantitative analysis

    programs such as; STATA, SPSS, R and SAS is an added advantage.

  • Organizational and prioritization skills

    (Candidate must be self-motivated and fast worker).

  • Proven ability to work both independently and

    under supervision in a team environment.
