The

Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization

which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists.

The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong

emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI

has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission:

Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services

(provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins

University Core Lab) and Outreach.


Infectious

Diseases Institute (IDI) received funding from Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR to implement a comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the

mid-western Uganda Districts of Kiboga, Kibaale, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi,

Buliisa and Kiryandongo. The project is called “Accelerating Comprehensive

HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Health System Capacity Building and Technical

Assistance of District Health Teams and Health Facilities in Western and West

Nile Regions in the Republic of Uganda under PEPFAR.”


Job Summary: The EMTCT/ EID Technical Officer will be charged

with the coordination, implementation, and ensuring maximum outputs regarding

EMTCT/ EID services in the West Nile Region. The incumbent will also provide

technical support to the district teams to ensure timely and quality

accelerated EMTCT / EID service delivery.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The incumbent will coordinate the implementation

    of all EMTCT/ EID activities related to the project in the supported

    districts.

  • Provide oversight for the mentorship of

    project and health facility teams in EMTCT/ EID services in line with MoH

    policies and procedures.

  • Strengthen documentation and records

    management of pediatric, HIV positive pregnant and lactating mother’s data

    using appropriate tools and online systems.

  • Work closely with the relevant district

    personnel to ensure provision of an integrated information package for

    improving care forHIV positive pregnant and lactating mothers.

  • Support community demand and community based

    activities for HIV positive pregnant and lactating mothers in the

    supported areas to improve identification, uptake and retention.

  • Perform any other duties as may reasonably be

    assigned from time to time by the EMTCT/ EID Coordinator.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The EMTCT/ EID Technical Officer should hold

    a Bachelor’s degree in medicine and Surgery. Possession of a Post graduate

    training in Public Health and or pediatrics will be an added advantage

  • Specialized training in HIV/AIDS Care and

    Treatment will be an added advantage.

  • Possess current registration with the Uganda

    Medical and Dental Practitioners Council

  • A minimum of three years’ experience working

    in HIV/AIDS services within the government health care setting, and in NGO

    setting

  • Previous experience providing technical

    assistance to large scale HIV/AIDS HSS interventions within MoH structures

    and systems.

  • Broad working knowledge and experience in EMTCT/

    EID services management.

  • Excellent track record of mentoring HCWs in

    EMTCT / EID service delivery.

  • Good working knowledge of EMTCT / EID service

    programs, strategies, processes and techniques used to plan, develop,

    implement and evaluate results of EMTCT / EID service programs.

  • Working knowledge of USG programming policies

    and regulations, MoH and district procedures and practices.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal

    skills including the ability to work effectively in a team.
