We currently place fellows in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.Uganda Village Project (UVP) is a nonprofit organization working with the people of Iganga to promote public health and sustainable development in the rural communities of this marginalized district in southeast Uganda. UVP facilitates community health and well-being in rural Uganda through improved access, education, and prevention. The organization’s flagship effort is the “Healthy Villages” program; an innovative, grassroots approach where Uganda Village Project works at a village-by-village level to address the most pressing healthcare concerns of each community, including malaria, HIV and STIs, household sanitation and hygiene, and family planning access. UVP also works with obstetric fistula awareness and repair and provision of clean water through shallow wells. Uganda Village Project has been working in Iganga District for 10 years, and we have committed to a recent period of robust evaluation to ensure our projects are having the intended impact. In 2015, we will be building off the work done by 2014 GHC fellows and continue evaluation covering our current priority areas of:MalariaHIV/AIDS and STIsFamily planningSanitation and hygieneObstetric fistulaCommunity-constructed shallow wells Job Summary: The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer will oversee the monitoring and evaluation work of Uganda Village Project to determine the effectiveness of the current programs. This includes analyzing the data collected during a mid-line survey and comparing it to UVP’s 2009 baseline survey, validating and analyzing current data, and creating new data collection methods to improve continued monitoring and evaluation.Key Duties and Responsibilities: Data entry and analysis of the Healthy Villages’ baseline/midline survey and Healthy Villages’ graduation surveyCreate an Access database for the Healthy Villages’ baseline/graduation survey for quick analysisIntuitively analyze collected data from the past 10 years to identify gaps, project outcomes, and areas of improvementContinue work to develop and pilot improved evaluation instruments to advance monitoring of specific programs; respond to modification suggestions from interns for data collection toolsSend reports for the TASO Institutional Review Committee to update them on research progressWork in partnership with board members on the M&E taskforce to further evaluation activitiesCreate templates for future data collection and analysisDesign reports and documents to share data analysis and evaluation impact data with external audiencesPrepare M&E sessions for summer intern orientationActively participate in proposal development for the evaluation section of funding proposalsUpdate social media platforms (Facebook, blog, monthly newsletter) about M&E activitiesConduct focus groups with Village Health Teams to help plan program implementationQualifications, Skills and Experience: The GHC fellow should have some experience in monitoring and evaluationPrior experience using Microsoft AccessSkills in program planning and design and project management experienceProficiency in data collection, validation, and analysisProficiency in Microsoft Word and ExcelComfortable working in a team and/or partnership environmentSelf-starter and self-disciplinedResearch skillsFluency in Luganda or Lusoga (Lusoga preferred)Job Terms and Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds.
