The

Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit organization

which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists.

The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong

emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI

has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention,

Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided

through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins University

Core Lab) and Outreach.


Infectious

Diseases Institute (IDI) received funding from Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR to implement a comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the

mid-western Uganda Districts of Kiboga, Kibaale, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Masindi,

Buliisa and Kiryandongo. The project is called “Accelerating Comprehensive

HIV/AIDS Service Delivery through Health System Capacity Building and Technical

Assistance of District Health Teams and Health Facilities in Western and West

Nile Regions in the Republic of Uganda under PEPFAR.”


Job Summary: The Pharmacy Logistics Officer will offer support in

monitoring and providing on-site support of logistics management in the

supported districts/health facilities according to MoH standards. The incumbent

will also ensure close monitoring of ART commodities and stock levels. He/she

will further ensure adequate supply of quality drugs, responding to dynamic

changes in demand, managing increased volumes of commodities and minimizing

pilferage and misuse.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Play a supportive role in getting the project

    supported health facilities to compile and submit their expected periodic

    MoH reports.

  • Develop and follow up on activity plans

    developed with the focal logistics personnel in the district health

    facilities.

  • Actively participate in providing technical

    training and mentoring to health workers to manage health logistics.

  • Actively participate in CMEs and

    disseminating information updates regarding logistics management.

  • Offer technical support in ensuring proper

    storage of drugs at the units of dispensing.

  • Work in liaison with the District Stores

    Assistants in carrying out supportive supervision to the lower health

    facilities.

  • Maintain tracking sheets on the various

    supported health facilities and provide reports on the following areas:

    • Number of clients enrolled in care,

      on ART and initiated on ART in a month

    • Consumption reports from the various

      units

    • Stock status levels of the various

      health units

    • Basic supply requirements of the

      pharmacy & store

    • Regularly report on identified

      challenges in the health units

    • Monthly report on availability of

      tools necessary to maintain data records.

    • Maintain records on the commodities

      regarding quantity ordered and that received from the MoH and other partners

      of the following items

    • Monitor the lead time of deliveries

      from MoH/NMS

    • Participate in therapeutic drug

      committee meetings held in the health facilities.

  • Perform any other duties as may reasonably be

    assigned from time to time by the Team Leader-Technical Supervisory Teams.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the Infectious Diseases

    Institute (IDI) Pharmacy Logistics Officer vacancy should preferably hold

    a Diploma in Pharmacy

  • Active Registration with the Allied Medical

    Practitioners Council

  • A minimum of  two years of working in a clinical setting/

    facility, preferably in an HIV/AIDS setting;

  • Additional experience in logistics management

    of ART commodities;

  • Computer knowledge and skills;

  • Excellent presentation and report writing

    skills ;

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to

    speak the local languages;

  • HIV counseling skills;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal

    supervision; and

  • Ability to work with the health care workers

    in the district as a team and provide timely feedback.

  • Fluency of the local languages within the

    supported districts is desirable.
