Phoenix

of Uganda Assurance Company Limited (PUAL) is an Insurer with regional presence

in East Africa. PUAL is a member of the Mauritius Union Group and has offices

in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania.


Job Summary: The Business Development Manager oversees the

Marketing and Sales team and is responsible for oversight of all business

development process including performance management, ensuring compliance with

governing regulations. The incumbent will work closely with the management

team, in the service of ensuring that the organization meets its goals,

development and implementation of strategies and systems. The Business

development Manager assists with implementing business development strategies

and office activities.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • In charge of developing and promoting

    business strategy developments and reviews

  • Responsible for developing and fulfilling

    annual, Bi-annual business plans, targets in line with growth targets.

  • Developing, establishing and fulfilling the

    yearly sales budget (EBIT, ROE, ROI, etc.)

  • Successfully establishing new business

    relationships that promote revenue growth for the Company.

  • In charge of promoting and participating in

    pertinent external educational programs.

  • Gaining new business by identifying and

    exploiting opportunities in the local market.

  • In charge of developing and maintaining good

    working relationships with clients, primarily insurance brokers and

    independent financial advisers (lFAs);

  • Introducing new products and promoting them

    through regular visits and communication with intermediaries.

  • Increasing profitability of existing product

    lines by encouraging clients to use added value services wherever

    possible.

  • In charge of monitoring and reporting on

    performance against agreed sales targets, sometimes including monitoring

    the performance of other marketing staff.

  • Working with underwriters to amend policies

    where necessary in order to meet client demand.

  • Evaluate/appraise team members on agreed

    measures of performance.

  • Screen potential business deals by analyzing

    market strategies, deal requirements and financials; evaluate options and

    recommend viable investments.

  • Close new business deals by coordinating

    requirements; develop and negotiate contracts; integrate contract

    requirements with business operations

  • Carry out “Business Development”

    internal training programs.

  • Conduct advertising and promotion campaigns

    of the company and organize participation at trade shows.

  • Organize and participate in customer events.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Bachelors’

    Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Business Management

  • At least three years’ management experience

    with a Financial Institution (Insurance).

  • Broad working knowledge of regulatory laws.
