Process Engineer – Jinja – Nile Breweries Limited

Job Summary: The Process Engineer will be tasked with the provision of Process Engineering Support for process design, optimization and systemic problem solving to the production functions


Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Apply process understanding of brewery operations and environmental matters:
Apply brewing, packaging and Utilities process knowledge in process engineering work
Make sure the process engineering work achieves desired process outputs
Apply principles of control and automation
Apply knowledge of SD and statutory requirements


2. The jobholder will apply principles of plant and process design:
Apply process design specifications
Provide material and equipment specifications
Manage hazard and operability analyses in review of plant and equipment designs


3. Support Day to Day Process Optimization:
Apply principles of systematic problem solving
Apply principles of plant and process optimisation
Actively contribute to the Optimisation of Energy and water usage and cost


4. Manage Project Work:
Apply principles of project management
Apply principles of process commissioning and performance acceptance testing


5. Apply Management Techniques:
Apply financial tools and techniques
Disseminate technical information
Apply asset management to process Engineering
Apply SABMiller manufacturing to operational aspects of the plant
Manage Own performance in a way the shapes a high performance High engagement culture


6. Develop Operational Staff:
Aid management decision making via provision of plant and process capability
Mentor and coach operational teams in correct plant operating practices
Demonstrate knowledge and commitment to responsible alcohol implementation
Demonstrate behavior which builds, maintains or enhances company reputation
Perform any other duties assigned by the Engineering Manager in relation to the role.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicants should hold a B.Sc. (Chem.Eng) / M.Sc. (Chem.Eng)
Hands-on experience in Brewing / a brewery environment is preferred
Working knowledge of chemical engineering principles and techniques and an understanding of the function of chemical engineering in the brewing / beverage industry
Broad knowledge and understanding of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics and Mathematics and its contribution to the brewing / beverage industry
The Chemical engineers should have superior ‘technical smarts’ and a strong aptitude for plant design and process optimisation, projects planning and execution, ideally coupled with, a keen interest in the biochemical processes of conversion of raw material into beverage products, leading to potential career paths in Brewing, Engineering, and/or Brewery management.
Some insight into practices and processes in a commercial manufacturing business
High levels of self-management / self-direction; proactive; ability to perform and succeed with minimal supervision or close direction
Highly creative, lateral thinking and problem-solving approaches
Ability to deal with complexity, and flexibility to handle some degree of uncertainty
Ability to apply theoretical chemical engineering principles and techniques for complex problem-solving in practice
Able to communicate sound chemical engineering insights and solutions to other disciplines / team members, verbally and in writing
Ability to interact and partner with people from different cultures and at all organisational levels, building respect and credibility through interactions and outputs
Ability to frequently interface with other technical disciplines and build networks to ‘ meet business and/or project management objectives
Thrive in a fast paced, pressurized competitive environment, constructively handling conflict and able to negotiate solutions
A strong affinity / passion for Brewing and Brewing processes
High performance orientation; a can-do attitude; highly resourceful; strong internal locus of control
