Humanitarian Action is a Non – Government Organization (NGO) operating in the

South Western Uganda in the district of Kamwenge, Nkoma Sub County Implementing

Health and Nutrition to the Congolese Refugees on behalf of UNHCR and

Government of Uganda (GoU) through Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).


Job Summary:  The Enrolled

Midwife will provide maternal, neonatal and child health services to the

population within the facility and in the community to support and encourage a

healthy living culture within the target population.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Receive patients, register admissions,

    referrals, discharges in the maternity unit.

  • Provide care during labor with emphasis on

    keeping proper records, use of medicines and prevention of complications

    to mother and baby.

  • Conduct ante-natal care with emphasis on

    identifying high risk cases and providing corrective actions/advice and

    refer complicated cases to medical officers.

  • Provide counseling to new mothers to allay

    any fears and anxiety, ensure proper breastfeeding, and observe hygiene

    and information on prevention of infections.

  • Actively participate in PHC activities by

    conducting health education, MCH activities and nutrition programmes for

    clients during ANC, post-natal and outreaches.

  • Ensure new born babies are immunized on time

    following proper prepared schedules before and after discharge from the

    health facility in line with standard operating procedures.

  • Provide family planning, PMTCT and HCT

    services for clients.

  • Compile and submit daily, weekly and monthly

    reports.

  • Ensuring infection control standard

    procedures are adhered to during reproductive health service delivery.

  • Actively participate in doctors/clinical

    officers ward rounds as well as carrying out observations, keep records

    and ensure their safe custody.

  • Participate in continuous nursing (midwifery)

    coverage on wards/units and receive reports and effective handling over to

    in coming shift.

  • Adhere to professional code of conduct and

    ethics and carry out any other duties as may be assigned.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidates should at least hold

    Certificates in Midwifery studies.

  • Valid registration from the national nursing

    Council.

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in similar

    or higher position.

  • Excellent inter-personal and communication

    skills

  • Excellent command of both written and spoken

    English

  • Knowledge in Kiswahili and Kinyabiwesha is an

    added advantaged.

  • Patient, understanding and of a pleasant

    character

  • Computer literacy with proven ability to use

    Microsoft Office

  • Good people management skills

  • Able to capacity build and develop others

  • Ability to mobilize different audiences
