Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological

College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College

trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The

local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.

International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The

Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the

College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s,

the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the

higher education – not only of clergy but of other professionals as well.

Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.


Job Summary: The Web & eLearning Administrator (Webmaster)

is primarily responsible for the technical functioning of the university

websites. The Webmaster will work closely with the University Communications

and Marketing office and other concerned departments to ensure the optimal

online-dissemination of appropriate information about the university and its

functional departments to both internal and external audiences. The Webmaster will

also ensure reliable, timely and secure access to UCU information. The

incumbent will also provide technical support to UCU faculty members involved

in the use of eLearning tools to enhance learning and to facilitate distance

education.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, maintain and manage websites and

    other online tools for the dissemination of content to internal and

    external public.

  • In charge of maintaining security for the

    university websites and monitoring traffic through the site.

  • In charge of enhancing the marketing function

    of the Communication and Marketing department by developing online

    marketing tools, making website traffic analyses etc.

  • Develop capacity at the Communication and

    Marketing department as well as Faculties and departments to enable them

    keep their website content up to date.

  • Under the supervision of the Head Systems, be

    involved in the planning, installation, maintenance and training of users

    of university eLearning resources and be the interface person between

    University ICT Service department and eLearning service providers.

  • Answering technical queries and advising on

    system and database upgrades relating to the University websites and

    Learning management Systems.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the

    Manager, University ICT Services and/or Technical Manager.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s

    Degree (at least 2:1) in Computer Science or Information Technology or a

    related field from a recognized institution of higher learning.

  • A minimum of two (2) years of proven work

    experience in developing and managing web applications in a medium to

    large environment.

  • Possession of a relevant ICT professional

    certification will be an added advantage.

  • Expert knowledge in FTP applications is a

    must

  • Broad working knowledge of Web design

    software

  • Good search engine optimization skills

  • Broad working knowledge of databases.

  • Good knowledge of web 2.0 applications and

    other recent trends in web applications.

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of Mobile

    App development and maintenance.

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of Content

    development and Learning Management Systems.

  • The applicant must be a mature and committed

    Christian.
