Uganda Health
Marketing Group Ltd. (UHMG) is a Company Limited by Guarantee, whose Vision is

UHMG was
awarded the USAID/Uganda Social Marketing Activity, a four-year cooperative
agreement for a health sector-wide program. The program’s goal is to contribute
to a reduction in new HIV infections, total fertility, maternal and child
mortality, malnutrition and malaria, and to improve access to family planning.
This four-year activity aims to improve utilization of and increase the uptake
of health-related social marketing products and services among under-served
Ugandan consumers and communities in rural and urban areas.
Job Summary: The Sales
Assistant will be responsible for carrying out the sale of socially-marketed
products from distribution points to the intended beneficiaries within the
specific region assigned so as to increase availability of the USAID brands on
the market, and grow market coverage as per UHMG’s sales targets and
objectives. This will include undertaking Sales and Merchandising to Clinics,
Health Centers, Drug shops, retail pharmacies, Dukas, stockists, and
supermarkets as well as to conduct promotional activations for the brands entrusted
to the Sales Assistant. The Sales Assistant will work to maximize sales
opportunities to achieve desired sales targets at both retail and wholesale
levels and ensure the socially marketing products are easily accessible on
demand by the targeted beneficiaries. S/he will create awareness for demand and
sale of the socially marketing products, and will travel frequently within the
region of operation, primarily to areas with limited access to the products
with the intention of developing customers and creating sales, and hence will
require a self-driven, seasoned, and experienced person with advocacy and
negotiation skills to manage and oversee these technical areas.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Participate in drawing up sales and marketing plans
for the socially-marketed products.
·
The incumbent will also develop periodic forecasts
for sales in the allocated territory/region in liaison with the supervisor.
·
Initiate product sales and generate sales on a daily
basis in the allocated territory/region as per sales plan and set targets.
·
Distribute brand materials to outlets visited on a daily
basis to increase visibility.
·
Take full record of all outlet calls made per day
and generate weekly update reports.
·
Generate and submit a monthly route plan and follow up
on all outlets merchandised.
·
Ensure the timely collection of payments from credit
sales and outstanding debtors.
·
Actively participate in the implementation of viable
sales promotion activities in assigned territory, in liaison with the
supervisor to maximize sales opportunities.
·
Attend UHMG exhibitions related to the products
assigned for knowledge dissemination.
·
Work closely with the Sales Officer to handle
customer complaints and ensure positive and timely feedback.
·
The Sales Assistant will support the Sales Officer in
managing distributor relationships and ensure growth of trade in assigned territory
and to promote UHMG brand loyalty.
·
The Sales Assistant will also provide market
feedback from both outlet providers and consumers of products.
·
Identify and develop prospects for future
product-line opportunities to diversify the product range.
·
Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and quarterly
progress reports on the project’s youth and gender awareness and intervention
activities.
·
Prepare and submit periodic status reports to the
supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·
The applicant for the USAID UHMG Project Sales
Assistant vacancy should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration,
Marketing or other management related field
·
Possession of a Post graduate Diploma in Sales and
Marketing will be an added advantage.
·
Professional qualification such as CIM will be an
added advantage.
·
A minimum of three years’ relevant experience
working in the field of product sales, marketing, and distribution in a donor
or FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) environment.
·
Good public relations, advocacy, negotiation, and
result-oriented skills.
·
Excellent track record achieving sales targets in a
highly competitive market is key.
·
Previous experience working with USAID programs will
be an added advantage.
·
Computer literacy i.e. Proficiency in relevant
computer applications and databases, with practical skills and experience
required
·
Highly self-motivated, focused, disciplined
professional, with the drive and dynamism to work under pressure with competing
deadlines, and possess the ability to make an immediate impact.
·
Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical
and result-oriented skills
·
Prior experience in managing objectives with the
customer in mind.
·
Good judgment, initiative, high sense of
responsibility, tactful, ability to plan, organize and measure outcomes of
interventions.
·
Exemplary and honest, with a high level of energy
and integrity, and able to work under minimum supervision.

The Sales Assistant should be detail- and
results-oriented, have strong conceptual, analytical, and presentation skills,
with expertise in proactive information gathering, analysis and impact monitoring,
be proactive, and institute innovative sustainable interventions, and should
have the capacity to work with minimum supervision, while upholding the Core
Values of UHMG.
