UHMG was

awarded the USAID/Uganda Social Marketing Activity, a four-year cooperative

agreement for a health sector-wide program. The program’s goal is to contribute

to a reduction in new HIV infections, total fertility, maternal and child

mortality, malnutrition and malaria, and to improve access to family planning.

This four-year activity aims to improve utilization of and increase the uptake

of health-related social marketing products and services among under-served

Ugandan consumers and communities in rural and urban areas.


Job Summary: The Sales

Manager will mainly be responsible for the overall product sales of the project

to the intended beneficiaries. This will include leading several high-impact

supply-side interventions in close collaboration with major Distributors in

order to increase availability of the USAID brands on the market, building

demand among private health providers, overseeing the development of

strategies, tools and procedures to guide in increased distribution and sale of

socially-marketed products, as well as overseeing operations of the Sales

Officers. S/he will travel country-wide frequently, primarily to regions with

limited access to family planning products in order to supervise distributors

and stockists, provide overall leadership to the various sales and promotion

teams across the country, and monitor key performance indicators, and hence

will require a self-driven, seasoned, and experienced person with skills to

manage and oversee these technical areas.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


1.

Sales and Distribution Strategy and Action Plans:


·        
Refine the Sales Plan and Distribution Strategy for

the Socially-Marketed products in line with the Project’s objectives.


·        
The incumbent will also manage relationships and

networks with existing distributors, customers, and end-mile outlets.


·        
Build and support mechanisms for real-time tracking

and reporting of sales, and advise on market share, knowledge, and development

needs. Ensure timely reporting of market feedback to the supervisor and propose

strategies for the same.


·        
The incumbent will support each distributor in the

development of their action plan for the products.


·        
Conduct monthly field visits in liaison with the

Sales Team to ensure the right mix of customers and products.


·        
Forecast demand for social marketing products in

order to generate projections and orders for timely procurement, meet set

targets, and avoid stock outs.


·        
Ensure distributors around the country have products

available and affordable to retailers at multiple levels of the supply chain,

and link distributors to retailers to ensure that prices reflect the

Recommended Retail Price (RRP).


·        
Significantly contribute to the development of

incentive schemes and other appropriate schemes to encourage expansion of

distribution, especially in hard-to-reach and remote areas.


·        
Actively monitor the effectiveness of incentive

schemes versus actual distribution coverage, product availability, and sales

uptake.


·        
Explore distribution opportunities beyond

traditional pharmaceutical channels and develop partnerships with non-pharma

For Profit or Not-for-Profit organizations to increase coverage of under-served

(bottom of the pyramid) populations.


·        
Actively manage distributor relationships and liaise

with all stakeholders to troubleshoot issues such as stock-out situations,

expiries, and price variations along the supply chain.


·        
Coordinate product distribution to ensure

country-wide coverage and timely servicing of orders in order to achieve the

desired distribution coverage and utilization of products.


3.

Mentorship and Training:


·        
Train and mentor sales teams on sales techniques,

customer relationship management, product knowledge, etc.


·        
Support in training distributors’ sales teams on

performance tracking, customer segmentation, sales territory management, etc.


·        
Work closely with field Sales Teams, and call on key

customers (wholesalers, pharmacies), and key opinion leaders and influencers so

as to increase sales.


4.

Performance Management, Monitoring, and Evaluation:


·        
Set overall sales and distribution objectives and targets.


·        
The incumbent will also maintain a database of

social marketing product stock, sales and distribution, including product uptake/sales

per region, customer profiles, analyze sales trends and comparisons with

competing brands, and generate reports accordingly.


·        
Review weekly performance records for the sales

teams against set targets and provide Management with progressive updates.


·        
Keenly analyze weekly data/reports from the sales

teams against set targets and provide Management with progressive targets.


·        
Supervise and coordinate sales teams, and ensure

monthly value sales and collections for all marketed products.


·        
Keep safe custody of all customer records and credit

application details as required by the Product Facility guidelines, and ensure

timely collection of dues during stipulated period.


·        
Work closely with the Credit Officer, ensure the

distribution of customer statements of accounts.


·        
In liaison with the Research Team, assess

distribution coverage and monitor UHMG’s market share and product performance.


·        
Prepare periodic reports on performance of socially

marketed products vis-a-vis set targets, including an inventory of stock, and

use the findings to revise/update product strategies.


·        
Mentor and supervise the Sales Officers and ensure

all functions under their care are performed satisfactorily.


·        
Conduct timely performance appraisals for staff

supervised.


5.

Relationship Management:


·        
Create and manage relationships and networks with

existing distributors, customers, and potential customers to ensure community

promotions, penetration, and last-mile delivery of products. Expand partnership

and networking base for UHMG products.


·        
Regularly review customer records and pursue

opportunities for segment growth. Facilitate demand creation of UHMG Products

and ensure timely supply at all times.


·        
Work closely with the Product Facility stores to

ensure obligations of customers are met in a timely manner.


·        
Manage and monitor the efficient distribution of

UHMG products to ensure wide coverage and maintenance of timely servicing of

all orders.


·        
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Senior

Advisor – Social Marketing.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The applicant for the USAID Project Sales Manager job

placement should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing

or other management related field


·        
Possession of a Master’s Degree in a related field

is a must.


·        
Professional qualification such as CIMA will be an

added advantage


·        
A minimum of five years of relevant experience

working in the field of product sales, marketing, and distribution in a donor

environment.


·        
Past exposure and experience working with USAID

programs will be an added advantage.


·        
Computer literacy with proficiency in relevant

computer applications and databases, with hands-on experience in the use of software

is required


·        
Highly motivated, focused, disciplined professional,

with the drive and dynamism to work under pressure with competing deadlines,

and possess the ability to make an immediate impact.


·        
Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical

and result-oriented skills, and experience in managing objectives with the

customer in mind.


·        
Possess good judgment, initiative, high sense of

responsibility, tactful, ability to plan, organize and measure outcomes of

interventions.


·        
The incumbent must also be exemplary and honest,

with a high level of energy and integrity, and able to work under minimum supervision.


·        
Highly flexible, innovative, with good record

keeping, communication, presentation, report-writing, and interpersonal skills.


·        
Good team player with the ability to make positive

contributions.


·

have strong conceptual, analytical, and presentation skills, with expertise in

proactive information gathering, analysis and impact monitoring, be proactive,

and institute innovative sustainable interventions, and should have the
