Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological

College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College

trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The

local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.

International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The

Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the

College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s,

the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the

higher education – not only of clergy but of other professionals as well.

Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
The Assistant Accountant will be in charge of entering

all payment vouchers


·        
The job holder will receive and file all bank

statements and other bank communications hard copies for all University bank

accounts


·        
Provides information on matters relating to banks as

required by the Director of Finance, Financial accountant and the Management

Accountant


·        
The incumbent will answer student queries regarding

their fees status


·        
Responsible for preparing, making adjustments and

reports to the Director of Finance of any anomalies


·        
Checking and verifying the accuracy of the payroll

for both full time and part time staff


·        
In charge of reviewing monthly trial balances


·        
Ensuring that documents, vouchers, cheque counter

folios, receipt copies and all supporting documents are brought for filing.


·        
Ensuring that all donated funds are receipted


·        
Responsible for ensuring that calculations and

payments of statutory deductions are carefully done and in time.


·        
Managing the budget including projections and

monitoring


·        
The job holder will also be carrying out bank

reconciliations of all bank statements, cashbooks


·        
Responsible for reconciling cash and petty cash

floats


·        
Perform any other official duties that the Director

of Finance may assign from time to time


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The Assistant Accountant should preferably

hold a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration or Bachelor of

Business Science majoring in Accounting and Finance from a recognised

institution of higher learning.


·        
Possession of professional qualification in

Accounting & Finance, obtained from an internationally recognized

institution, is a must e.g. Part II CPA/ACCA/CIA/FIA


·        
A minimum of two years’ experience performing

similar tasks in a large and reputable public or private sector organization.


·        
Working knowledge of computerized accounting

packages.


·        
Ability to work under pressure


·        
Must be a committed and mature Christian
