Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological

College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College

trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The

local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.

International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The

Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the

College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s,

the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the higher

education – not only of clergy but of other professionals as well. Uganda

Christian University was established in 1997.


Job Summary:  The Standard

Supervisor will manage the production of the University’s Standard newspaper.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The applicant should preferably hold a Master’s

degree in Journalism or Mass Communication. The applicant must also hold a Bachelors’

degree in Journalism or Mass Communication (at least second class upper) from a

reputable University


·        
At least three years of print newsroom experience.


·        
The applicant should have detailed working knowledge

and experience in reporting, designing and editing newspapers or magazines.


·        
Possess the ability to lead an editorial team, and

to coach and mentor budding journalists.


·        
Broad knowledge and understanding of the relevant

regulatory framework for the newspaper’s operation.


·        
Sound news judgment


·        
Skilled in using editing software, including Quark

Xpress and In-design.


·        
Excellent writing skills.


·        
A “nose” for news.


·        
Ability to set targets and enforce and observe

deadlines.


·        
Ability to strategise for the overall growth and

viability of the paper.


·        
Must be a mature and committed Christian.
