Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological
College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College
trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The
local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.
International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The
Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the
College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s,
the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the
higher education – not only of clergy but of other professionals as well.
Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.
Job Summary: The University
Librarian will be leading the Library team and also work as part of the team of
Senior Executives of the University.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·
In charge of the management of the Staff in the
University library and information services
·
Responsible for the University Library and
information services
·
In charge of the Library Staff and their periodic
appraisal
·
Preparing and submitting budget proposals for the
University Library
·
Making development plans for the Library
·
Ordering and Purchasing of books and other library
material
·
Supervising the safe custody of books and other
Library property
·
The incumbent will also be reaching library and
study skills to Library and Information System courses
·
Membership to University Administrative and Academic
Committees e.g. Senate
·
Convening regular meetings for Library Committee and
Staff
·
Implementing quality assurance standards for the
Library
·
Perform any other official duties as may be assigned
by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·
The University Librarian must hold a PhD in Library
and Information Science or a related field such as Management of Information
Science, Management of Information Systems, Information Studies, Publishing or
Information Technology is desirable.
·
A Masters degree in Library and Information Science
or a related field such as Management of Information Science, Management of
Information Systems, Information Studies, Publishing or Information Technology.
·
A Bachelors degree in Library and Information
Science or a related field such as Management of Information Science,
Management of Information Systems, Information Studies, Publishing or
Information Technology.
·
At least five years of post Masters experience in
the management of library /information resources, senior in a
University/Tertiary Institution setting.
·
Excellent analytical and leadership skills.
·
Strong customer focus.
·
Broad and deep functional or subject matter
expertise in Library Management systems
·
Familiarity with Library Management systems.
·
Must be a mature and committed Christian.
