Job Summary: The Senior

Officer, Livelihoods – SOLE plays a focal role in strengthening young farmers

groups’ knowledge, skills and practices in agribusiness in 6 underserved

sub-counties in Amuru, Nwoya and Gulu districts. The incumbent will be responsible

for linking youth to actors in agricultural value chains: inputs, production,

processing, marketing and transportation of agricultural products. S/he also

liaises with District Production Offices and Local Partners to offer both

agronomic extension services and market opportunities for young farmers. S/he

is also involved in supporting the formation and development of Village Savings

and Loan Associations (VSLAs) for youth groups and promote linkages with

microcredit institutions for more comprehensive Business Development Services

(BDS), including support to access business and agro value chain loan services.

In addition, the job holder will also taje part in building capacity of

resource persons -Community Based Trainers (CBTs) to train and offer technical

assistance to the VSLA groups on VSLA methodology, savings and loan management

and coaching and mentoring. The job holder is also responsible for supporting

youth led market assessment to identify opportunities, develop business plans

and support the implementation of the youth business plans. The Officer may be

called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency team in cases of

humanitarian crisis.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The ideal candidate for the Save the Children Senior

Officer, Livelihoods – SOLE job opportunity should hold a bachelor’s degree or

higher in Agriculture or Business Development studies. A Postgraduate

training/Advanced degree in the related field, Social sciences/social works, or

Management is an added advantage.


·        
Previous exposure and experience in livelihood and

youth programming is preferred.


·        
At least three years of relevant working experience

in a similar position in an NGO. Experience working with agricultural and

livelihoods programs especially in Value Chain Development and Rural Financial

Methodologies including Village Savings and Loan Associations


·        
Strong documentation,  advocacy, facilitation and presentation

skills


·        
Past exposure and experience of working with local

partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health,

Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.


·        
Excellent analytical skills and strategic planning

abilities.


·        
Ability to establish and maintain conducive

collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.


·        
Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills

are a must.


·        
Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to

work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds

and cultures.


·        
Ability to intervene with crisis management or

troubleshooting as necessary.


·        
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

including influencing, negotiation and coaching.


·        
Excellent time management and planning capacity.


·        
Availability and willingness to work extra hours

during times of humanitarian responses.


·        
Ability to speak local language (Luo) and directly

interact with target group will be an added advantage


·        
Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach

areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
