Global Health Corps pairs
intelligent and passionate fellows with organizations that require new thinking
and innovative solutions. We provide these young leaders with the tools to
remain connected after their fellowship year finishes, deepening their ability
to enact change through heightened skills and strong partnerships. We currently
place fellows in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and
Zambia.
LifeNet International (LN) is a
not-for-profit organization that creates innovative solutions for the everyday
health challenges facing East Africa’s poor. In 2011, LN launched a Conversion
Franchise network to build the capacity of 10 church-based primary care clinics
in Burundi, East Africa through nurse training, management systems, growth
financing and medicine supply. We will expand to 60 clinics by year-end 2014,
and in early 2015 we will be expanding our network to Uganda to build on our
success. Our goal is to improve clinical performance by 50% within the first 12
months of partnership, across all core functions ranging from nursing care to
financial management. We impact our clinic partners in four general categories:
nursing basics, financial/management consulting, pharmaceutical supply, and
loans for equipment. LN aims to make significant and sustainable improvements
in the health of Uganda’s poor through a clinical network of 10 health
facilities in 2015. We want to replicate and improve upon the successes and
lessons learned in Burundi, with a focus on establishing our medical training
and management consulting programs with new partners in Uganda.
Job Summary: The
Management Consultant Fellow will work closely with LN management to aggregate
best practices in clinical operations management and implement training and
franchising products that deliver these best practices across the franchisee
network in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Aggregation and Assessment:
During the initial phase the
fellow will travel to partner clinics to conduct site assessments at each
clinic site. The fellow will be responsible for delivering an accurate
assessment of current managerial and financial practices at each clinic and
highlighting areas for improvement. The fellow will also be responsible for
documenting best practices at each clinic for distribution across the LN
partner network. The fellow will have access to the program materials developed
for Burundi health center partners, and will be asked to adapt and modify them
to best serve the needs of our Ugandan health partners.
2. Innovation: The innovation stage builds upon the
assessment stage. Best practices will be honed into systems – such as financial
reporting methods or inventory management, tools and trainings. The fellow will
develop new content and modify existing tools in each of these areas to create
a franchising product for distribution across the network.
3. Implementation: The final component will be implementing
relevant best practices across the clinical network through training and
systems implementation. The fellow will refine the product based on the
in-clinic reception for future use by the LN team. The fellow will report
directly to the Uganda Country Director on a weekly basis to deliver project
updates, discuss successes and challenges, and collaborate with LN team members
as is helpful to develop their assignment. Performance feedback will be given
at each stage of the operation.
