Reports to: Bridges and Structures Specialist


The

Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;

The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on

1st July 2008.  The mandate of UNRA is to

develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general

roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.


Job Summary: The Bridges and Structures Engineer will render

support in managing site investigations and design of bridges and structures,

preparation of standard drawings and


bidding

documents. Furthermore, the Engineer will assist in site inspection of existing

bridges and structures during design, preparation and/or review of feasibility

studies and designs, durability assessment and providing input to the preparation

of bids for external tenders.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in site inspection of

    existing bridges and structures in line with departmental targets and

    standards;

  • Take part in the preparation of designs for

    bridges and structures in line with

  • departmental guidelines and standards;

  • Actively participate in the review of

    structural designs in line with departmental targets and guidelines;

  • Regularly inspect bridge and structures

    construction projects for compliance with design standards in line with

    departmental guidelines and standards;

  • Take part in the preparation of bidding documents

    for bridges and structures for construction works and services and

    external tenders in line with departmental guidelines and targets;

  • Participate in offering design services to

    external entities in line with departmental guidelines and targets;

  • Actively participate in quality management of

    design activities in line with department guidelines and standards;

  • Develop risk matrix and put in place risk

    mitigation measures on bridges and structures designs;

  • Respond to audit reports and implement agreed

    recommendations within specified time frames;

  • Participate in planning, budgeting and

    reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Bridges

    and Structures Specialist


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the UNRA Bridges and

    Structures Engineer job vacancy should hold an Honors Degree in Civil

    Engineering;

  • Possession of registration with the ERB or

    relevant Association of professional engineers in the Commonwealth is an

    added advantage;

  • Additional Post Graduate qualifications in

    Civil Engineering or other relevant field will be an added advantage;

  • Three years’ experience in designing bridges

    and structures using Computer Aided Design Software (CADs).

  • Skills and knowledge in the preparation of

    structural drawings using AutoCAD application package

  • Computer literacy skills

  • High level of integrity;

  • Proven track record of outstanding

    performance;

  • Excellent interpersonal, particularly

    staff/management relations skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication

    skills;
