Reports to: Pavement Specialist
The
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;
The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on
1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Job Summary: The Pavement Engineer will actively support in
the compilation and analysis of the pavement condition and other relevant data
including construction data. The Pavement Engineer will also participate in the
design and quality assurance of pavement works and periodic monitoring of the
performance of the pavement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in the design for all
pavements in line with departmental guidelines and standards; - Regular review structural designs in line
with departmental targets and guidelines; - Participate in the deterioration investigations
of pavements in line with departmental guidelines and standards; - Conduct quality assurance of pavement works
in line with departmental guidelines and standards; - Actively participate in offering design
services to external entities in line with departmental guidelines and
targets; - Conduct periodic monitoring of the
performance of constructed pavements in line with departmental guidelines
and standards; - Develop risk matrix and put in place risk
mitigation measures on pavement designs; - Respond to audit reports and implement agreed
recommendations within specified time frames; - Actively participate in Planning, budgeting
and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets. - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Pavement
Specialist
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA Pavement Engineer vacancy
should hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering; - Master’s Degree in Pavement Engineering or
related field is an added advantage; - Professional registration with the ERB or
relevant Association of professional engineers in the Commonwealth
countries is an added advantage; - At least three years’ experience in Pavement
/ materials engineering. - Computer literacy skills
- High level of integrity;
- Proven track record of outstanding
performance; - Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relation skills - Excellent oral and written communication
skills;
