Job Title: Compliance Engineer
Organisation: Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Manager, Technical Compliance and Monitoring
The
Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is a statutory body established in
accordance with the Electricity Act, 1999 (Cap. 145 of the Laws of Uganda). The
Act empowers ERA to regulate the Generation, Transmission, Sale, Export, Import
and Distribution of electrical energy in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Compliance Engineer will primarily monitor
and enforce compliance of licensed utilities with license terms and conditions,
the Electricity Act, 1999 and the regulations made under the Act.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keenly monitor and enforce technical
compliance of licensed utilities with license terms and conditions. - Develop and. continuously update performance
standards, benchmarks and codes of practice. - Carry out inspections and investigations
required to ensure power supply availability, reliability and quality of
supply and service of the licensees. - Actively participate in investment approvals
and verification for licensees. - Offer technical support to the Consumer and
Public Affairs Unit in respect to handling of consumer complaints of a
technical nature and carryout inspections and investigations as may be
necessary. - Perform any other official duties as may be
reasonably assigned by the supervisor or Management.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should preferably hold an
Honours degree in Electrical Engineering from a formally recognized
institution. Possession of a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is
an added advantage. - The applicant must be registered with UIPE/
ERB. - A minimum of four year’ experience in a busy
organization. - Working knowledge of the Electricity
regulatory frameworks (Laws, applicable regulations, guidelines and
policies). - Prior experience in technical /engineering
Audits. - Be of high moral character with a demonstrable
degree of integrity. - Be performance oriented and ready to work for
long hours in and outside Kampala. - Working knowledge of power system planning.
- Good team player.
- Computer literacy skills
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to cope under pressure.
- Age: Between 28 – 40 years
