The
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;
The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on
1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general roads
policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Job Summary: The Highway Engineer will render support in
carrying out route assessments, preparation of the geometric designs entailing
horizontal and vertical alignment design and preparation of design drawings. The
incumbent will also support in the design of ancillary features including
utility services and ICT ducts, road side furniture, crush barrier systems,
traffic diversions as well as participating in the inspection of road
construction projects in line with the designed standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Render support in the preparation of the
geometric designs in line with departmental guidelines and targets; - Regularly inspect road construction projects
for compliance with design standards in line with departmental guidelines
and standards; - Actively participate in offering external
design services in line with departmental targets; - Conduct quality management and confirmation
of measurements of the executed works in line with bills of quantities,
standards, and specifications; - Develop risk matrix and put in place risk
mitigation measures on geometric designs; - Regularly respond to audit reports and
implement agreed recommendations within - specified time frames;
- Actively participate in the planning,
budgeting and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets. - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Highway
Specialist.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA Highway Engineer
job vacancy should hold an Honors Degree in Civil Engineering; - Professional registration with the ERB or
relevant Association of professional engineers in the Commonwealth
countries is an added advantage; - Possession of Post Graduate qualifications in
Civil Engineering or other relevant field will be an added advantage; - At least three years’ experience in highway
design for major road projects. - Comprehensive knowledge in any of the highway
design software such as MX roads, Civil 3D High degree of integrity; - Computer literacy skills
- Proven track record of outstanding
performance; - Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relations skills - Excellent oral and written communication
skills;
