Partners

in Population and Development (PPD) is a southern-led and southern-run

Inter-Governmental alliance consisting of 26 developing countries that was

founded during the International Conference on Population and Development

(ICPD) held in Cairo, Egypt in 1994. PPD was formed to expand and strengthen

South-South collaboration between and among the developing countries in

addressing issues of reproductive health and rights, including family planning

and HIV/AIDS, population and development in the context of achieving the ICPD

goals. PPD Africa Regional Office was founded in 2007 as part of the global

south south inter-governmental alliance and links 14 African member countries

of PPD. PPD ARO’s mission is to provide a platform for the promotion of and

resource mobilization for reproductive health, population and development in

Africa through four mission elements: policy and funding advocacy;

accountability for sexual reproductive health and rights commitments;

networking and building strategic southern partnerships; and sharing of

experiences and good practices through south – south cooperation.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Under the supervision of the Regional Director, Africa Regional Office,

the Programme Officer will:

  • Offer technical support in the management and

    smooth implementation of programs;

  • Oversee the formulation of project proposals

    for collaborative inter-country exchange in the areas of reproductive

    health, population and development, including completing and processing of

    proposals for donor funding;

  • Manage designated projects using result-based

    management and prepare reports for donors and other external agencies, in

    conjunction with other team members;

  • The incumbent will offer assistance in developing

    communication materials, both printed and in electronic forms, including

    programme overviews, newsletters, PPD ARO website materials, brochures,

    annual reports, articles, press releases, meeting reports, etc, used to

    promote the PPD ARO’s programmes for audiences including policy makers,

    networks and external donors.

  • Render support in networking with other

    organizations and individuals, including the promotion of electronic

    bulletin boards, electronic mailing lists, blogs, etc;

  • Assist in organizing inter-country

    meetings/workshops and collaborative south-south activities;

  • Actively facilitate the sharing of knowledge

    on reproductive health, population and development and related issues with

    network members;

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the

    Regional Director, PPD Africa Office.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a Master’s

    degree in public health, population studies, communications, International

    Development or related disciplines;

  • A minimum of five years’ experience with two years

    of working in the areas of designing, implementing and managing

    reproductive health, family planning, population and development programmes,

    communication and fundraising, including some experience with

    international organization;

  • demonstrated ability to multi-task and

    coordinate work and communications at a distance and asynchronously;

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of various

    government systems, operations, budgeting, accountability and reporting

    mechanisms;

  • Ability to liaise with MOH officials and

    dignitaries, NGOs, networks and development partners;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal

    skills with multiple/external stakeholders;

  • Demonstrated ability in managing grants and

    programmes for government, CSOs and private sector;

  • Computer expertise in MS Word, Excel, and

    PowerPoint. Expertise with the internet, particularly with accessing

    information and electronic forms of networking
