Baylor College of Medicine Children’s
Foundation Uganda (Baylor-Uganda) is a national non-profit child health and
development organization providing family-centered pediatric HIV/AIDS
prevention, care, and treatment services. Baylor-Uganda also provides health
professional training and clinical research. Baylor-Uganda is committed to
providing high quality, high impact and highly ethical pediatric and family-centered
health care, health professional training, and clinical research focused on
HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition, and other conditions impacting
the health and wellbeing of children and families worldwide.

Job Summary: The Business Development Fellow will
support will Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation in reviewing and
implementing resource mobilization systems and guidelines to expand the
financial resources of Baylor-Uganda in line with the Directorate’s mission.
The incumbent will ensure that staff are trained to implement the guidelines
and maintain systems. He / she will also identify potential donors, cultivate
relationships, and lead development of proposals for funding.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare
proposals for donors and development finance institutions and provide technical
support to departmental/unit/project heads in preparation and development of
fundable quality proposals for the organization’s programs to leverage
additional resources for Baylor-Uganda in accordance with Baylor-Uganda
proposal writing guidelines
·
Develop
and maintain a donor database, including contact details, areas of
interest/objectives, funding, and contractual modalities and formats with a
view to sustaining existing relationships and identifying new potential funding
opportunities in line with Baylor-Uganda resource mobilization policy
·
In
charge of building and strengthening partnerships and networks with potential
donors, including local funding agencies, corporate sectors, and international
donors to foster relationships in line with donor requirements and Baylor-Uganda
resource mobilization policy
·
Develop
and implement policies, strategies and procedures on resource mobilization and
monitor the compliance of staff with the approved policies and procedures in
line with the Directorate’s mission
·
Develop
a system for identifying and monitoring the implementation of non-donor funded
strategies while involving Baylor-Uganda line supervisors as per the agreed
upon periodic resource mobilization targets for each department/unit/project
·
Develop
periodic operational resource mobilization activity plans and budget and submit
monthly and quarterly performance reports to the supervisor in line with
Baylor-Uganda financial guidelines and reporting
·
Build
the capacity of Baylor staff and partners in resource mobilization (i.e. in
fundraising aspects, donor relating/guidelines) as per the identified needs to
enhance their resource mobilization skills in line with Baylor staff
development policy
·
Identify
the organization’s finance deficit, liaise with the key stakeholders to develop
a resource mobilization strategic plan to curb the deficit and generate more
funds and then follow up on corrective actions in line with the Baylor-Uganda
resource mobilization policy
·
Develop
and implement a procedure to enhance preparation and prompt submission of high
quality technical and financial accountability reports to donors and other
relevant partner institutions as per the requirements of donors and other
relevant partner institutions in line with Baylor-Uganda resource mobilization
policy
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·
The
ideal candidate for the Global Health Corps Career placement should hold a university
degree in a field relevant to strategic planning and/or organizational
development.
·
At
least three years of related work experience in a reputable non-governmental
organization
·
Working
knowledge of project planning and management principles, donor guidelines,
resource mobilization, and grant writing
·
Applicants
with additional health-related qualification are preferred
·
Applicants
with entrepreneurship skills have an added advantage
·
Proven
ability to work on a team
·
Strong
skills in the areas of communication, negotiation, networking and partner
cultivation
·
Dynamic,
persuasive, self- motivated and able to demonstrate high initiative
·
Previous
experience publishing papers related to policy development or organization
development/improvement is desired
Job Terms and Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing,
health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will
receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year.
Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC
programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds.
Housing will be arranged in in Kampala, an urban center and capital of Uganda.
Note:
The living stipend and completion award may be paid out in USD or local
currency, as determined by the placement organization.
