The
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) was established by an Act of Parliament;
The Uganda National Authority Act, No. 15 of 2006. UNRA became operational on
1st July 2008. The mandate of UNRA is to
develop and maintain the national roads network, advise Government on general
roads policy and contribute to addressing of transport concerns, among others.
Job Summary: The Ferry Operator will be responsible for
navigating the ferry safely in accordance with safety and marine navigation guidelines.
The Operator will also be responsible for directing the operation of the vessel
in accordance with the Ferry Operations Manual and applicable occupational
health and safety regulations. In addition, the Operator will also be responsible
for signalling to passengers and motor vehicles to embark and disembark.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Signal passengers and motor vehicles to
embark and disembark; - Navigate the ferry safely in accordance with
safety and marine navigation guidelines; - Actively participate in conducting training
drills; - Conduct periodic inspections of the ferry to
ensure that the ferry is always in good working condition and report any
deficiencies or irregularities in its operation; - Ensure that passengers are recorded and that
the safety provisions are observed; - Operate hydraulic ramps to facilitate the
safe disembarkation of ferry passengers; - Manage all ferry operations.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Ferry
Master
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNRA Ferry Operator
vacancy should hold an Ordinary Diploma in Marine/Nautical Science,
Mechanical Engineering, or any other relevant qualification; - Relevant Industrial Training Experience while
at the Institute/college is mandatory; - Working experience will be an added
advantage; - Computer literacy skills
- High degree of integrity;
- Excellent track record of outstanding
performance; - Ability to work as part of a team;
- Excellent oral and written communication
skills; - Excellent interpersonal, particularly
staff/management relation skills - Ability to deliver accurate results in a timely
manner and in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks.
